In his shadow form (most common): Katurian resembles a grayscale sketch of a man with a bag on his head. This "bag" is made up of overlapping, unintelligible words that periodically grow brighter and easier to read, particularly during heightened emotions. (See reference image). He is capable of lightening and darkening the shades of gray in his body to build contrast, hide away, or mimic the presence of clothing.

In his solid form (rare): Katurian can make himself solid, although it takes some effort to "ground himself" and let himself contact the physical world. (He also turns solid when frightened, since fear is great at keeping you in the moment.) In this form, he resembles his shadow form but has his human face.

He eats by growing an extra arm and plucking the soul out of the chest. His hand then swallows it.
